The civil parish covers a total area of 950 acres (380 ha) and mainly consists of flat terrain with an average elevation of around 200 feet. Urban development has occurred in Shavington village and the immediate southern area of Crewe along the B5071. The rest of the civil parish is predominantly rural, mainly used for agriculture. The area is intersected by Swill Brook, several unnamed brooks, and various small meres and ponds.

The Welsh Marches railway line, the A500 trunk road, and Newcastle Road (former A500 route) all run east to west through the civil parish. The A500 has a junction at SJ707527. Also, the B5071 (Crewe Road) runs north to south from Crewe to Wybunbury. A network of lanes connects the B5071 with adjoining villages, including Gresty Lane leading westward to Rope and Willaston, as well as Weston Lane heading eastward to Basford and Weston.
